This is a very similar process to changing music pack & voice expansion location.

Step 1) Open Windows File Explorer to the desired folder location you’d like the VMXPlaylists folder to be added to, again I will use D:/ as my example target location.

Right click over where File Explorer says “This PC > Games(D:)” and select ‘copy address as text.

Step 2) With VMX loaded and VoiceAttack in Administrator mode say “enable configuration options”. When prompted to choose whether to configure music packs or playlist locations, you will of course want option 2, so say “2”. A GUI dialogue box will open, like below:

Now simply paste in (CTRL V or Right click and ‘paste’) the copied location into the dialogue box and select ‘OK’.

A ‘VMXPlaylists’ folder will be created in D:/ giving you: D:/VMXPlaylists. You may add in playlists immediately, but a restart of VoiceAttack is required for the new location to be used.

Resetting Pack locations back to default:

Very straightforward. This time say “disable configuration options”, if you wish to revert playlists location (VMXPlaylists) back to Windows default Music folder location, choose option 2 by saying “2” when prompted. You may also say “both” to revert both playlists and music packs/voice expansions back to default. A restart of VoiceAttack will be required afterwards.

Additional info & troubleshooting:

A few brief notes on this feature. VMX will perform some basic checks to ensure that your desired location is valid. It’s important to be aware that not every location in Windows is writable, even if the path is valid. Areas within Program files (x86) for example may not give write access, or you may be using encryption or security software of some type which will restrict access. In these cases you will receive an error from VMX telling you there was an error trying to write to the location. In most cases this will simply be because you’ve entered an invalid location (which is why I recommend the copy/paste method to minimise the chance of this happening).

If you change your mind mid process, you can of course click ‘Cancel’ in the GUI dialogue box, you may also say “Exit” to dismiss the dialogue box and end the interactive process.
